it has been a while since I wrote a blog post. Of course, a lot has happened so it was about time and here we go! ? Grab a cup of tea and/or a snack and enjoy the read.
Challenges
As you may have seen on Instagram, I have been busy creating lettering pieces (the shop will be stocked soon!) and I also participate in several lettering challenges; from my weekly challenge 52 Weeks of Lettering (4 weeks left) up to collaborations with other lettering artists, like Tag You’re It (there are many weeks left for this one). I even tried the 36 Days of Type but that turned out to be a little overwhelming…
Of course, overwhelm was never the intention. I started lettering because I liked it and because it helped my brain. Gosh, that sounds a bit much, haha, but it really did help me whenever I overthink things. “I feel better when I letter”. It’s true. Does this resonate with you too?
Max, from Lettering Daily also experienced overwhelm which is why he did the #100DaysOfLettering. He made a YouTube video about it and he inspired me to also do it. Not for the goal of posting it, or selling it, but solely to rekindle with my creativity, spark and especially the fun!
The rules are simple: every day, for 100 days, you create a lettering piece. You spend a minimum of 15 minutes up to a maximum of 1 hour and you’re only allowed to use paper and a pencil (and sharpener & eraser). Sounds amazing, right? I don’t think I’ll create everyday but that’s okay. Not having the deadline of having to post it daily really takes off the pressure. And if I do post about it, you’ll find them in my Instagram stories :). Go check them out.
Freebies
I also created artwork for Typism, a lettering studio and community. Every year, Typism publishes Typism Book; a little black and white book with seriously awesome artwork from amazing artists from all over the world. 2 years ago, I discovered these books and I remember thinking, oh wow, this is incredible and my gosh, how talented are these artists! Wouldn’t it be a dream to have my art in one of these books one day? But nah, not going to happen, never!!
Until this year.. I took a chance and submitted a few lettering pieces. So exciting and I thought, I at least tried. A few weeks later, I got an email: I got ‘shortlisted’. Wow, 4128 submissions and they selected little old me for the last round of judging (400 pieces). Super cool. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the final cut but I am very thrilled I made it this far. It’s confirmation that lettering suits me and it fueled my fire to not give up!
One of my submissions was ‘Just Remember Your Awesomeness‘. Because this is such an important message and I hope many people get to see it, I turned it into a ‘freebie’. You can download the lettering piece, print it, put it on your iPad, trace it or color it in. So many options! Also, I regularly go live on Instagram and I use this (or another) freebie. Please check my newsletter for more information and the download. I’m looking forward to seeing your creations! Please tag me or join me live on Instagram.
That’s it for now. Thank you so much for your time and I promise I will write again soon.
Until then!
